On Humility

God will never be satisfied with a corner or basement of our human heart. He desires the whole house: the whole heart, soul and mind. Only then can He fill a person to capacity. To achieve this we must, first of all, empty our hearts of all worldly priorities. The tool for this lifetime long process is - humility.

HUMILITY is nothing more than the truth. Whereas pride puts things out of focus, humility puts things where they belong, in proper perspective. Since humility puts us in the proper relationship with God, the more humble a person is, the closer he or she is to God. The degree of saintliness corresponds to the degree of charity; and the degree of charity to the degree of humility.

Humility is the virtue that directly attacks the one sin that has caused all the trouble in the world - pride. Humility is the telescope through which we see the grandeur of God. It is also the microscope that reveals the smallness in each of us. Humility teaches us caution. A humble person no longer rushes where angels fear to tread; no more playing with highly flammable occasions of sin. "Learn of me, for I am meek and humble of heart, and you will find rest for your souls".
